The Kellogg Institute for International Studies at the University of Notre Dame is now accepting applications for its postdoctoral visiting fellowships.

The awards offer a one-year residential appointment to conduct global research related to democracy and human development.

The benefits of being a fellow include a competitive annual stipend of up to $80,000 per year plus $2,000 in travel funds, research support and medical insurance, and a partial housing subsidy.

Who qualifies?

  • Individuals from any country with a PhD earned within the last five years are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants will benefit from a supportive scholarly community, seminars, international exposure, and opportunities to publish in the institute’s working paper series.
  • The most competitive applicants will hold a PhD or equivalent degree in a social science discipline. But in some cases, applicants with a PhD in other disciplines are considered.
  • For non-US citizens, advanced English language proficiency is required, and you must have a valid passport and obtain a J-1 visa.

Application Requirements

  • Submit a cover letter addressing your interest in the fellowship and specifying your preferred term of stay
  • Curriculum vitae
  • A research project statement with 6–10 double-spaced pages
  • Submit a project abstract of 150 words maximum and a short bio of within 200-300 words
  • Three confidential letters of recommendation – Letters must be received into the Interfolio system no later than October 7.
