Photographers wanted: Capture the spirit of archaeology for CWA 2026

The Current World Archaeology (CWA) Photo Competition is now open for entries for its 2026 edition. Organisers are seeking photographs that capture the breadth, depth, and excitement of archaeological work around the world.

The competition celebrates the dynamic field of archaeology through striking visual imagery that tells the story of human history and discovery.

Benefits

The overall winner will receive a cash prize of £100. Additionally, a selection of outstanding entries will be featured in a special section of Current World Archaeology magazine.

Eligibility

The competition is open to anyone—professional or amateur—interested in showcasing their work. Submitted images should creatively illustrate the diversity and vibrancy of archaeological practice today.

Submission Guidelines

To enter, participants must:

  • Submit image files via email to cwa@world-archaeology.com

  • Attach image files directly to the email (do not embed them in the email body).

  • Include the following information:

    • Full name

    • Primary email address

    • A brief description (maximum 100 words) of the photograph and its context.

Entries that do not meet these requirements may be disqualified.

Deadline

The deadline for submissions is 26 January 2026.
Prize-winners will be notified by 9 February 2026.
