The PADI Foundation is now inviting applications for its 2026 Research and Education Grants, which aim to expand scientific and public understanding of aquatic environments.

The initiative supports individuals and organisations dedicated to marine conservation, diving safety and the study of underwater ecosystems.

Aim

The grant programme seeks to fund innovative projects that enhance knowledge of aquatic systems and promote their long-term protection.

It also encourages research that advances the safety, sustainability and responsibility of human interaction with underwater environments.

Funding details

Each year, the PADI Foundation distributes approximately $167,516 in total grants. Most awards range from $5,000 to $10,000, though proposals requesting up to $12,000 are accepted.

Exceptional projects focused on diving physiology and safety may receive higher levels of funding.

Areas of interest

Projects should align with one or more of the Foundation’s key priority themes:

  1. Understanding Aquatic Environments: Supporting research that deepens appreciation, knowledge, and protection of marine and freshwater ecosystems.

  2. Diving Physics and Physiology: Advancing research that improves diver safety and expands understanding of underwater health and performance.

  3. Climate and Ocean Resilience: Addressing how climate change affects marine life and human communities that rely on aquatic ecosystems.

Who can apply

Applications are open to:

  • Researchers, scientists and educators studying aquatic or marine environments.

  • Conservationists and environmental organisations conducting fieldwork or awareness campaigns.

  • Innovators developing solutions related to diving safety or climate resilience in ocean contexts.

Requirements

Applicants must submit a clear, well-structured proposal detailing the project’s objectives, methodology, and potential impact.

A detailed budget should accompany the proposal, showing exactly how funds will be allocated.

Projects must demonstrate both scientific relevance and practical outcomes that advance aquatic research, conservation or education.

Deadline

The application deadline is January 15, 2025.

Interested candidates can apply via the PADI Foundation website.
