The Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) is the country’s largest film celebration, lighting up the cinematic landscape every July.
The 9th edition will take place from July 18 to 25, 2026, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The festival embraces emerging talents, experimental works, auteur cinema and timeless classics, creating an inclusive platform for diverse voices and stories.
Awards and categories
MIFFest features two main sections: the Feature Competition (New Directors), open to directors with three or fewer narrative feature films, and the Feature Non-Competition, open to all new narrative feature films from aspiring filmmakers worldwide.
Awards include Best Film, New Hope Award, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and the Audience Choice Award.
Eligibility
● Directors with three or fewer narrative feature films for Feature Competition (New Directors)
● All new narrative feature films from aspiring filmmakers worldwide for Feature Non-Competition
● Films must be completed in 2025 or 2026, with a minimum running time of 60 minutes
● English subtitles are required
● Films must be submitted online via the MIFFest website, including a secure online screener link valid until May 31, 2026

● Film details and press materials may be shared on MIFFest’s official platforms with the entrant’s consent
● Selected films must provide a DCP, E-DCP, or approved digital screening file identical to the submission screener
