The Literature Translation Institute of Korea (LTI Korea) has opened applications for its Overseas Translation Workshop Support, a project-based grant for universities outside Korea that run Korean literature translation programmes.

The initiative aims to strengthen Korean literature translation capacity globally by supporting structured, academic-led workshops rather than one-off activities.

Focus

The programme is designed to promote high-quality translation of Korean literary works directly from Korean into local languages.

It supports hands-on translation training, expert-led seminars and engagement with writers, enabling universities to build sustainable translation expertise and long-term academic capacity.

Programme benefits

Funding amounts are not fixed and are determined in Korean won, based on the scale, structure and justified costs of each programme.

Support typically covers instructor fees, seminar operations, guest invitations and related administrative expenses. When converted, approved grants generally amount to several thousand US dollars, depending on the final budget.

Who can apply

Eligible applicants include:

  • Overseas universities offering Korean language courses.

  • Overseas universities offering Korean literature programmes.

There are no restrictions on the local language into which works are translated.

Supported activities

Funded workshops may include translation practice seminars, expert- or writer-led sessions, and special lectures related to Korean literature or literary translation.

Optional activities—such as translation contests, public readings or Korean cultural experiences—may also be included, provided they directly support learning objectives.

Application process

Applicants must submit a detailed business plan using LTI Korea’s official format, along with faculty CVs and self-introductions. All documents must be written in English or Korean.

Proposals will be assessed by external experts based on institutional capacity, clarity of programme design, budget justification and anticipated outcomes.

Deadline

Applications close on January 14, 2026. Interested institutions should apply via the LTI Korea website.
