The Logan Science Journalism Programme is inviting science storytellers to step away from daily newsroom demands and spend time immersed in real research. The goal is to give journalists an authentic understanding of how science unfolds—from experimental design to final results.
Participants work side by side with scientists, gaining hands-on experience they can apply to future reporting.
Focus
The programme offers two practical, research-focused tracks:
-
A biomedical science track exploring the human microbiome and CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing.
-
An environmental track examining coastal ecosystems, with emphasis on nitrogen inputs, habitat changes, and field-based data collection.
Both tracks are designed to deepen journalists’ understanding of scientific methods and processes.
Benefits
Selected fellows receive full financial support, covering travel, housing, meals and all programme-related costs.
International applicants who obtain their visas will have visa fees reimbursed, though some reimbursements may be subject to U.S. tax deductions. Fellows also receive administrative assistance with visas, insurance and general logistics.
Who can apply
Applicants must already be engaged in science communication. Those with limited lab or field experience are especially encouraged to apply, as the programme is designed to bridge that gap.
Eligible applicants include:
-
Science journalists
-
Science writers
-
Science editors
-
Broadcast or multimedia producers
-
Professionals with at least five years of experience in these roles
Application requirements
Applicants must submit a CV, a 600-word statement outlining their experience and goals and a brief explanation of any previous lab or research exposure. Four samples of reporting or editing work in English are required, along with two references, ideally including a current or former supervisor.
Journalists who have completed one track in the past may apply for the other.
Deadline
The closing date is January 15, 2026. Visit the official website to apply.
