The Biochemistry Society is inviting applications for its Scientific Outreach Grants, a fantastic opportunity for its members and those from The Physiological Society to spark public interest in the molecular biosciences.

These grants are designed to support engaging activities that help people understand and appreciate the exciting world of biology at a molecular level.

The core purpose

At its heart, this grant program aims to achieve several key objectives. It seeks to communicate the wonder and excitement of molecular biosciences to a wide variety of audiences, from young students to the general public.

By doing so, the Society hopes to stimulate interest in these fields and, crucially, encourage the next generation of scientists to pursue careers in the molecular biosciences.

Financial support

Successful applicants can receive up to £1,000 to fund their outreach projects. This financial support is specifically for activities that actively engage the public with scientific concepts related to molecular biosciences.

The grants provide a valuable resource for members looking to share their passion and knowledge outside of traditional academic settings.

Scientific Outreach Grants also empower researchers and educators to bring science directly to communities, making complex topics accessible and inspiring. This not only enhances public understanding but also fosters a vibrant scientific culture by showcasing the impact and relevance of molecular biosciences in everyday life.

Who Can Apply?

The Scientific Outreach Grants are open to dedicated individuals globally who are ready to share their expertise. To be eligible, applicants must be members of either the Biochemical Society or the Physiological Society. The proposed activities must focus on molecular biosciences and take place within the UK and Ireland.

Here are the specific qualifications for applicants of the Scientific Outreach Grants:

  • Must be a current member of the Biochemical Society or the Physiological Society.
  • The application must be for a new outreach project or an existing project requiring further support.
  • The outreach activity should occur within the UK and Ireland.
  • The activity must relate to molecular biosciences.

The Application Process

  • The Society encourages all interested members to prepare their proposals thoroughly to highlight the potential impact of their outreach efforts.
  • When submitting an application, candidates will need to provide comprehensive details about their proposed activity. This includes a clear breakdown of all anticipated costs, explaining how the grant funds will be utilized effectively.
  • Furthermore, applicants must clearly explain how their activity aligns with the grant’s aims, how they plan to evaluate its success, and their strategy for publicizing the event to reach a broad audience.
