The TREE Fund is currently accepting applications for its John Z. Duling Grant Program, which provides start-up grants and seed funding.

It also offers support for innovative research and technology transfer projects that have the potential of benefiting the everyday work of arborists (that is tree surgeons or arboriculturists).

The grants may be used to support exploratory work in the early stages of untested but potentially transformative research ideas and approaches.

Funding details
  • Projects are expected to be completed within one to three years with a maximum grant award of $15,000.
  • No project may receive more than one award from this program.

The money can be used to cover such expenses as stipends and benefits, travel and transportation, equipment and other materials, and supplies.

Others are contract labor (consultants, speakers, and others), institutional overhead (up to 10%), and miscellaneous.

Note that the TREE Fund does not give grants to individuals or fund projects that are primarily for municipal tree surveys or assessments, tree planting, traditional forestry, or timber production.
