The Global Peace Photo Award has officially opened its 2026 call for entries, inviting photographers from every corner of the globe to share their visual interpretations of peace.

Organised by Edition Lammerhuber in partnership with UNESCO and the Austrian Parliament, the award seeks to highlight the quest for beauty and goodness in our lives.

The competition targets images that go beyond the absence of conflict, focusing instead on human efforts toward a peaceful world.

By honouring works that express the ideal of peaceful coexistence, the award aims to provide a counter-narrative to times of great uncertainty.

Funding and benefits
A total of €11,000 in cash prizes will be awarded across six distinct categories to support the work of winning photographers.

The top honour, the ”Peace Image of the Year,” carries a significant €7,000 cash prize sponsored by the Vienna Insurance Group.

Additional rewards include €1,000 each for three winners in the Stories category, one winner in the Single Picture category, and the winner of the Children’s Peace Image of the Year.

These financial incentives are designed to recognise professional excellence and the power of peace-focused storytelling.
Beyond cash, all six winners will be awarded the prestigious Alfred Fried Peace Medal.

Winners will also receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Vienna in September 2026 for the official award ceremony, with travel and accommodation costs fully covered.

Selected works gain massive international exposure through exhibitions, such as the recent showcase in Budapest that drew over 45,000 visitors.

Furthermore, winning images are displayed in a permanent exhibition within the newly renovated Austrian Parliament.

Application requirements and eligibility
The award is open to photographers from all over the world, and entry is completely free of charge. Submissions should capture human efforts towards a peaceful world and the “quest for beauty and goodness”.

There is a dedicated category for the next generation of visual storytellers: the Children’s Peace Image of the Year.

This category is specifically for young photographers aged 14 years or younger, supported by partners like UNICEF Austria to give children a voice in artistic dialogue.

Deadline
Photographers must submit their work through the official online portal before the final cutoff. The competition is currently active and will remain open for submissions for several weeks.

The absolute deadline for all entries is 24 May 2026. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the full terms and frequently asked questions on the organisation’s website before submitting their stories or single images.
