The Harambee Africa International Foundation has opened submissions for the 11th edition of its International Award, “Conveying Africa—Telling the Africa that Surprises.”
The award seeks to spotlight stories of innovation, courage and community-driven progress—an Africa that surprises and inspires.
It encourages filmmakers and storytellers to capture the continent’s complexity and strength, highlighting locally driven solutions, cultural vibrancy and everyday acts of courage that foster positive change.
Award details
Winners in Categories A, B and C will each receive €1,500, while Category D—dedicated to young creatives—offers a prize of €500.
Additionally, winners will gain global exposure and the opportunity to connect with international audiences, amplifying authentic African narratives that challenge outdated perceptions.
Who can apply
The competition is open to a wide range of participants under four categories:

Category A: Professional video-makers, journalists, or independent producers (maximum 60 minutes)

Category B: Non-profit organizations with social goals (maximum 60 minutes)

Category C: Commercial entities such as broadcasters, agencies, or production companies (maximum 60 minutes)

Category D: Young creatives under 25, submitting short videos of up to 5 minutes
For Category D, direct experience in Africa is not required, but submissions should explore themes such as resilience, inclusion and solidarity.
Application details
Entries must be audiovisual productions that tell stories of transformation, social progress or human connection in Africa. Submissions will be judged based on originality, authenticity, impact and the ability to portray Africa’s reality with nuance and depth.
Projects can focus on any African country but must demonstrate clear storytelling, technical quality and a meaningful message.
