Partnering with Sheffield DocFest, the program reflects a booming global interest in solo, episodic factual listening. Unlike the Whickers’ film awards, this podcast-specific category is open to both seasoned creators and newcomers alike.
Funding and benefits
The stakes are high for applicants, with the top prize featuring a £15,000 production award designed to bring a winning audio vision to life.
A runner-up in the Podcast Pitch will also be selected to receive a £5,000 prize to support their project.
Beyond direct funding, finalists will be invited to the Sheffield Documentary Festival in June 2026. The Whickers will provide free festival passes, three nights of accommodation, and a travel contribution of up to £400 per project.
The program also offers invaluable industry exposure, granting finalists access to top industry professionals and commissioners within the audio world.
Application requirements
The Podcast Pitch is open to independent podcast producers or directors from across the globe. While the program is international, all submitted projects must be accessible to listeners in the English language.
Storytellers are encouraged to submit proposals for either single episodes or full series.
To be eligible, every applicant must have an executive producer already on board at the time the application is submitted.
