The National Geographic Society has announced the launch of the 2026 Slingshot Challenge, an educational initiative designed to inspire creative solutions to some of the planet’s most pressing environmental issues.

About the challenge

The Slingshot Challenge invites participants to develop innovative ideas and actions that address global sustainability challenges.

Focus areas

Applicants are encouraged to create projects that tackle one or more of the following five focus areas:

  • Clean the Air

  • Restore the Ocean

  • Protect Nature

  • Reduce Waste

  • Address Climate Change

Funding

Successful submissions are eligible to receive up to USD 10,000 in unrestricted cash awards.
In the case of team entries, the prize money will be shared equally among team members.
