The Mitigation Action Facility has launched its latest call for projects, presenting an opportunity for institutions working to advance climate change mitigation.

The initiative aims to help partner countries accelerate their transition to carbon-neutral development by removing policy, financial and regulatory barriers that limit climate-aligned investments.

Focus areas

The Facility supports projects that help countries implement their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Long-Term Strategies (LTS).

Priority areas include:

  • Energy

  • Transport

  • Industry

  • Cross-sector solutions that clearly connect to these fields

All proposals must demonstrate strong country ownership and clear alignment with national climate goals.

Funding details

The call offers access to a $100 million funding envelope, with up to $25 million per project.
Selected initiatives receive a combination of technical assistance and financial cooperation, equipping them to deliver long-term, scalable impact.

The Facility also features an optional Lighthouse Pilot Projects stream for testing innovative delivery models. Up to 25 promising concept notes will be invited to pitch. High-maturity projects may advance directly to the full proposal stage, reducing preparation time and speeding implementation.

Who can apply

Eligibility is open to institutions capable of designing and delivering climate mitigation solutions, including:

  • National ministries or government agencies

  • Public or private development banks

  • NGOs and INGOs

  • Foundations and non-profit institutions

  • Private financial institutions

  • Commercial companies

  • Legal entities operating in OECD DAC-listed partner countries

Requirements

Proposals must address climate-related barriers in the energy, transport or industry sectors.

Projects should:

  • Combine policy reform with financial mechanisms

  • Demonstrate how they will leverage additional capital

  • Show a plan to reduce reliance on Facility support over time

  • Meet Official Development Assistance (ODA) eligibility

  • Advance sustainable development

  • Integrate gender equality and social inclusion through an intersectional approach

Alignment with NDC Partnership plans is also strongly encouraged.
