Getty Pre-and Postdoctoral Fellowships opens applications for early-career scholars

Applications are open for the Getty Pre- and Postdoctoral Fellowships to support early-career scholars from around the world to make substantial and original contributions to the field of art history.

The fellowship is organized by the Conservation Research Foundation Museum.

The fellowships are part of the Getty Scholars Program with a mix of senior scholars and junior fellows. The fellowships are in three categories.

The first is the scholar grants, intended for established researchers and professionals who received their PhD before September 1, 2022.

Those in this category must possess strong records of publication and professional activity at the Getty Center or Getty Villa.

The second category is the Postdoctoral Fellowships for recently granted PhDs at the Getty Center or Getty Villa

And the third category is the pre-doctoral fellowships for PhD candidates at the Getty Center.

Benefits include visa support for those who have accepted an offer to one of their residential programs.

Eligibility criteria

  • Scholars of any nationality or place of residence are welcome to apply.
  • Scholars who are citizens of countries other than the United States are encouraged to apply.
  • Scholars who have experience studying, teaching, and/or conducting art historical research in non-US contexts.

Accepted fellows receive visa support for residential programs. Applications must be submitted through the designated Grant Portal by October 1, 2025.
