The IF Prog welcomes applications from doctoral students and young researchers based in East Africa to conduct short-term research projects in French laboratories. The initiative aims to strengthen scientific partnerships and foster mobility for promising researchers across all scientific disciplines.

PhD candidates and recent graduates will gain valuable experience by working in a French research environment over the course of three months. Additionally, participating researchers will build lasting professional networks and enhance their research capacity.

Funding

Successful applicants will receive funding to cover specific costs, including

  • One round-trip airline ticket.
  • Social security for the duration of the stay in France.

The grant does not, however, cover living expenses or tuition fees; these costs must be covered by other means, such as the home institution or the host laboratory.

Who can apply

The call is open to researchers who are:

  • Nationals of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda or Burundi.
  • Enrolled in a PhD programme or have completed their PhD within the last five years.
  • Affiliated with a university or a public or private research institute in their home country.
  • Have already secured an invitation from a host laboratory in France.

How to apply

Interested candidates should submit a complete file that includes a detailed description of their research project, a curriculum vitae (CV), and an official letter of invitation from the French host laboratory.

Deadline

The deadline for all submissions is November 30, 2025. Visit the Institut français website to apply.
