The Eva Crane Trust, founded by renowned bee researcher Dr Eva Crane, is inviting applications for its 2025 grants supporting research and initiatives that advance the understanding of bees and beekeeping.

The Trust funds a wide range of projects, including those in apiology, citizen science, educational events and publications. Applicants must select one of four grant categories: Science, Citizen Science, Events or Books.

Funding support

The maximum grant amount for 2025 is £5,000. The Trust operates on a “pump-priming” model—providing seed funding for innovative projects that may otherwise struggle to start. Grants are milestone-driven, with continued funding dependent on satisfactory progress reports reviewed by the Trustees.

Eligibility

The Trust prioritises original and innovative projects, particularly those led by students beginning research in bee science who have already received a separate fellowship.

It does not fund:

  • Academic chairs or long-term/core funding

  • Retrospective or commercial projects

  • Institutional overheads

  • Standalone travel or conference registration fees

Who can apply

  • Individuals or teams advancing knowledge in bees and beekeeping.

  • Researchers focusing on apiology, citizen science, events, or publications.

  • Early-career researchers with existing fellowships.

Application process

Applicants must register on the Trust’s online application platform and submit a detailed financial breakdown of the project budget in Pounds Sterling (GBP).
The Trust welcomes match-funded projects, provided proof of secured additional funding is included in the application.

For ongoing grants, recipients must submit a progress report within 9–12 months of receiving the initial funding.

Deadline

Interested applicants can visit the Eva Crane Trust website to apply before December 1, 2025.
