The Doha Film Institute (DFI) is inviting filmmakers to apply for its Feature Film Grants Programme, an initiative designed to support the development and completion of ambitious, original film projects.
The programme plays a key role in nurturing new cinematic voices while strengthening the global presence of diverse and authentic storytelling.
The Feature Film Grants programme aims to support filmmakers who are exploring powerful ideas, social themes, and original narratives through cinema.
It prioritises projects that demonstrate strong artistic vision, cultural relevance, and storytelling depth, while encouraging innovation across narrative, documentary, and experimental forms.
Funding and benefits
- Narrative feature films may receive up to $20,000 for development, $100,000 for production, and $75,000 for post-production.
- Documentary features are eligible for up to $15,000 in development funding, $75,000 for production, and $50,000 for post-production.
- Experimental and essay films can receive up to $10,000 for development and $30,000 for production or post-production.
- Beyond financial support, the programme offers filmmakers visibility, industry credibility, and access to a global creative network.
Who can apply?
The grants are open to first- and second-time directors from around the world, as well as established filmmakers from the Middle East and North Africa.
This structure allows emerging talent to grow while continuing to support experienced regional voices who contribute to the global film landscape.
Project requirements and eligibility
Eligible projects must be feature-length and demonstrate a clear creative vision and feasible production plan.
While filmmakers may work independently, the programme strongly encourages professional collaboration, including the involvement of a producer separate from the director, to ensure strong project execution.
