The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has rescheduled its pre-test for shortlisted candidates in the Superintendent Cadre following earlier operational glitches.
In a statement on Thursday, the agency announced that candidates who had previously received email notifications will now sit for the online test in four batches, labelled A to D.
Applicants are required to check their batch, date, and time using their National Identification Number (NIN) via the portal updates.customs.gov.ng. The NCS stressed that strict compliance with the assigned schedule is mandatory, warning that failure to adhere could lead to automatic disqualification.
Other cadres to follow later
The service explained that the current pre-test applies only to the Superintendent Cadre. Candidates in the Inspectorate and Assistant Cadres will be contacted at a later date and are cautioned not to attempt logging into the portal for now.
Additionally, the pre-test is not a final determinant of recruitment outcomes. It is designed to familiarise candidates with the online system and aid in the planning of the broader recruitment exercise.
Push for digital transformation
According to the NCS, this recruitment drive aligns with its ongoing efforts to modernise customs operations through technology-based solutions. The service has increased manpower recruitment in recent years to respond to rising trade volumes and growing border security challenges.
While past recruitment exercises were often marred by overcrowding and technical setbacks, the adoption of online pre-tests marks a shift toward greater transparency, efficiency, and accessibility.
Following the huge chunk of applications received, the Customs Service has appealed for patience and goodwill as it works to deliver a smoother and more credible selection process
