The United Nations is calling on journalists from global media organisations or channels to submit entries for the 2025 UN Media Awards.

The United Nations Correspondents Association’s 29th annual UNCA Awards will have categories for best print, broadcast (TV & radio), and online, web-based media coverage of the United Nations, UN agencies, and field operations.

Categories

  • The Elizabeth Neuffer Memorial Prize: This award is for print (including online media) coverage of the UN and UN agencies.
  • The Ricardo Ortega Memorial Prize: This award is for broadcast (TV and radio) media coverage of the UN and UN agencies.
  • The Prince Albert II of Monaco and UNCA Global Prize for Climate Change: This award is for print (including online media) and broadcast media (TV and radio) that cover climate change, with a particular focus on the climate change impact on oceans, biodiversity, and sea level rise in Small Developing Island States.
  • The UNCA and Italgas Global Prize for Digital Innovation and Artificial Intelligence: The prize highlights journalism that explores how technology is shaping a more sustainable and equitable future.

This award honors excellence in print (including online) or broadcast (TV and radio) journalism covering the impact of digital innovation and artificial intelligence on sustainable development and public service.

Who can apply?

The UNCA awards are open to all journalists anywhere in the world, but the following criteria apply:

  • Reports in print, broadcast (TV & radio), and online coverage must be published between September 2024 and September 2025.
  • Entries should demonstrate impact, insight, and originality, evaluating the journalists’ courage, investigative prowess, and reporting skills. Entries from the media in the developing world are especially encouraged.
  • Entries can be submitted in any of the official UN languages (English, French, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, and Russian); however, a written transcript in English or French is necessary to facilitate the judging process.
  • Each candidate may submit entries to a maximum of two prize categories, with up to one story per category. Joint entries are also permitted, with a max of three names listed for credits.
  • Ensure your digital files and valid web links are uploaded and included on the online entry form.

How to Submit Entries

The United Nations is inviting journalists to submit entries for its 2025 UN Media Awards organized by the United Nations Correspondents Association.

The 29th annual UNCA Awards feature categories for outstanding journalism in print, broadcast (TV & radio), and online media covering topics related to the UN, its agencies, and field operations.

Key categories include the Elizabeth Neuffer Memorial Prize for print and online UN coverage, the Ricardo Ortega Memorial Prize for broadcast media, the Prince Albert II of Monaco and UNCA Global Prize for Climate Change focusing on media coverage of climate issues affecting island states, and the UNCA and Italgas Global Prize for Digital Innovation and AI in journalism regarding technology's impact on sustainability and public service.

These awards are open worldwide to journalists whose work was published between September 2024 and September 2025. Submissions must demonstrate originality, insight, and impact, with particular encouragement for media from developing regions.

Entries can be in any UN official language but require an English or French transcript. Each journalist may submit to up to two categories with one story per category, and joint submissions are allowed for up to three contributors. Entries must be submitted by September 30, 2025, using the online form provided by UNCA.
