The International Schools Essay Competition and Debate encourages students to think critically about sustainable living and its global impact. It aims to promote awareness and understanding of sustainable development and why it matters for the planet’s future.

The initiative challenges students to think creatively and develop well-argued essays and debates around sustainability topics. It provides a platform for young people to showcase their knowledge, analytical skills, and passion for creating positive change while engaging with like-minded peers from around the world.

Eligibility
The competition is open to:
● Students aged 14–18 from international schools
● Students interested in sustainable living and its global impact
● Individuals or teams of 2–3 students
Requirements
Entries may be submitted in DOC, DOCX, PDF, JPG, PNG, MP3, or MP4 formats, with a maximum file size of 400MB. Written entries must not exceed 600 words, while video or audio entries should be no longer than three minutes.
Non-written submissions must include a 200-word explanation, and participants may also include an optional 150-word self-reflection about their experience.
If AI tools are used for research support, their use must be clearly acknowledged in line with Trust for Sustainable Living’s (TSL) citation requirements.
Selection criteria
A panel of judges will review and assess all entries based on creativity, clarity and the strength of argument. The top participants will be shortlisted, and finalists will be announced on the Trust for Sustainable Living website.
Deadline
To ensure fairness, all entries must remain anonymous, with no names or school details included in the uploaded files.
Teachers can register between September 7, 2025 and March 1, 2026, via the TSL Submittable page.
The closing date for all entries is March 1, 2026.
