The Netherlands Film Fund has opened the application process for the realization of Dutch minority co-productions in 2026.

This grant scheme covers various categories, including feature films, feature-length animation films, and documentaries.

By engaging in international co-productions, the Fund aims to sharpen the artistic vision of creators and provide a broader financial base for ambitious film projects.

This collaboration is designed to increase the international visibility of Dutch film professionals and help them break into global markets.

Applications are rigorously evaluated by an advisory committee based on artistic-content quality. The Fund specifically seeks projects that demonstrate a substantial creative and technical contribution from professionals based in the Netherlands.

Funding and benefits

For feature films and long animations with a budget under €3 million, producers can apply for a maximum contribution of €250,000.

If the film’s budget exceeds €3 million, the available subsidy increases to a maximum of €450,000.

Documentary projects are also eligible for significant support, with a maximum grant of €70,000 available for their realization.

These contributions are intended to bolster the financial stability of the production while promoting creative exchange.

A critical requirement of this benefit is that the subsidy amount must be spent entirely within the Netherlands.

This ensures that the funding directly supports the local industry, including Dutch cast, crew, and production services.

Application requirements and eligibility

The scheme is specifically for Dutch minority co-producers representing a production company established for at least two years in the EU, EEA, or Switzerland.

The applicant must have a proven track record, having previously served as a major producer for at least one film with a theatrical release in the Netherlands.

To qualify, projects must have 50% of their financing confirmed from the major producer’s country of origin.

Additionally, the total contribution from Dutch funds and market parties must represent at least 10% of the total production costs.

The applicant must also secure the exclusive distribution rights for the Benelux or Dutch territory and guarantee a theatrical release in the major producer’s country.

A written statement from a Dutch distributor or broadcaster is required to confirm the project’s visibility in the Netherlands.

Deadline

Producers may submit only one project per application round for this specific regulation. The first deadline for the 2026 cycle is March 3 at 17:00 CET, followed by subsequent rounds on May 5, August 25, and October 6.
