Entries are now open for the ATW Media Awards, a premier recognition platform spotlighting impactful journalism, photography, videography and multimedia storytelling that showcases the richness of African tourism.

Aim

The awards celebrate high-quality storytelling that brings African travel experiences to life — from in-depth features and powerful visuals to timely news reporting and youth-driven content.
They aim to reward work that promotes responsible tourism, uplifts local cultures, highlights community initiatives and strengthens Africa’s voice within global travel conversations.

Award benefits

Winners receive continental recognition, industry exposure, networking opportunities and the potential for their work to feature in Africa Travel Week promotional campaigns.
Awardees are unveiled at the prestigious Africa Travel Week Travel Leaders Lunch, offering a significant boost to their professional visibility and credibility.

Award categories

This year’s edition will honour exceptional work across five categories:

  1. Sustainability Feature Award – for in-depth reporting on regenerative tourism, community-based travel, conservation and eco-friendly innovation.

  2. Visual Tourism Award – for compelling photography or visual art that captures the essence of African destinations.

  3. Tourism News Award – for strong journalistic reporting on tourism developments, policies and industry issues.

  4. Destination Feature Award – for immersive, well-researched storytelling that explores a destination’s culture, people and landscapes.

  5. Young Talent Award – open only to creators under 25, spotlighting emerging travel storytellers and content creators.

Who can be nominated

The awards are open to journalists, photographers, videographers and digital storytellers across Africa whose work meets the following criteria:

  • Submissions must be published or broadcast in 2025.

  • Multiple unique entries are allowed.

  • Young Talent submissions are restricted to creators under 25.

  • Entrants must hold rights or have permission to submit their work.

  • Entries must follow the technical and content guidelines for their category.

Submission expectations

  • Entries should clearly align with their chosen category.

  • Sustainability Features must be deeply researched, insightful and solution-oriented.

  • Visual Tourism submissions should deliver strong emotion, originality and storytelling through imagery.

  • Tourism News entries must demonstrate credibility, accuracy and relevance.

  • Destination Features should offer immersive, culturally grounded narratives that take readers on a journey.
