If you are a school leader, teacher, or educator, you can now apply for the Global Schools Advocates Program. The 6-month-long training and advocacy initiative stems from a survey of 220 local sustainable development champions and 40+ educators.
Selected educators will receive up to 30 lectures and participate in original readings and comprehensive assessments, all aimed to help them implement education for sustainable development (ESD) strategies via specific action-research methodologies incorporated into the ESD in schools.
The benefits range from online training developed by the Global Schools team for increased sustainable development literacy and provision of new, active strategies for implementation in the classroom to monthly online workshops and conversations on sustainable development to connect educators with other education leaders and SDG Advocates.
The benefits also include:
– Access to an educator network of like-minded teachers working to implement activities and lessons on global issues within their classrooms;
– Visibility opportunities and participation in conferences
– Structured mentorship from experienced educators who have already completed the Global Schools Advocates program
– A comprehensive Advocates Toolkit with 17+ supporting documents meant to guide participants’ work in school communities
– And a formal Certificate of Completion.
Who qualifies?
– Teachers at primary or secondary schools from anywhere in the world can apply.
– English proficiency is required to complete the Advocates Training and engage with the global network.
– Potential fellows are those with a willingness to commit at least five hours per week for learning, brainstorming with other teachers, experimenting with integrating sustainable development in lesson plans, and creating a movement for sustainable development in schools.
– Applicants must also demonstrate passion for the mission of the sustainable development goals and the Paris Climate Agreement, though no prior experience with the sustainable development goals is required.
– Willingness to learn and engage with a global community of teachers is a requirement, and the ability to inspire and willingness to motivate other teachers and faculty is a plus.
