Fundación Botín is inviting creative minds to apply for its 2026–2027 Visual Art Grants, a prestigious tradition that has supported over 200 talents since its launch in 1993.

The Visual Art Grants serves as a dynamic stimulus to contemporary art by funding personal research and production projects in the visual arts.

Unlike academic fellowships, these grants focus strictly on artistic creation rather than theoretical studies.

A total of six scholarships are available to artists of any nationality who are ready to push the boundaries of their craft during a nine-month tenure.

Funding and benefits

Each successful applicant will receive an endowment of €23,000 to cover living expenses, travel, studio rentals, and production costs.

Additionally, grantees relocating to a different country for their research will be provided with comprehensive medical and travel insurance.

Beyond the financial support, the Visual Art Grants culminates in a collective exhibition titled Itinerarios at the Centro Botín in Santander.

This showcase allows artists to present their work in professional galleries or formats tailored to their specific research, such as video, performance, or participatory activities.

The Foundation continues its commitment to these artists even after the grant cycle ends by closely following their subsequent professional progress.

Notably, the Art Advisory Committee may choose to purchase works created during the grant for inclusion in the permanent Fundación Botín Collection.

Application requirements and eligibility

The call is open to global artists, with one grant specifically reserved for a Spanish artist or resident under 30 who intends to move abroad for their project.

Applicants must submit a detailed CV, a project plan of up to 10 pages, and high-quality graphic documentation of their previous work.

Proposed projects must be completed within a nine-month period and must officially commence before the end of 2026.

Because these grants are direct and non-transferable, they cannot be used for any purpose other than the specific project outlined in the application.

To ensure a fair selection, a jury of international art professionals will evaluate all submissions based on the quality and feasibility of the research.

Applicants are expected to provide a final report and visual documentation of their executed works at the conclusion of the cycle.

Deadline

Interested creators must first register via the official online portal before sending their full application package through regular mail.

All physical submissions must be clearly marked with “BECA DE ARTE” and should be received or postmarked no later than May 8, 2026.

The final resolution of the jury will be made public before July 17, 2026, on the Foundation’s website.

Prospective applicants should note that the Foundation will not return any materials submitted as part of the application process.
