The UNDP has launched “Get Ready 4 Timbuktoo EdTech,” a specialized pan-African online incubation program designed to accelerate the growth of the continent’s digital education sector.

Implemented in partnership with Pitch Palabre, the initiative aims to strengthen the entrepreneurial maturity of startups while significantly improving their access to global financing.

This intensive edutech startup program is tailored specifically for investment-ready startups that have developed at least a working prototype.

Over the course of the incubation period, 50 selected companies will undergo a comprehensive journey built upon five strategic pillars to ensure their products are ready for large-scale impact.

The curriculum utilizes data-driven management to track real-time performance, ensuring that each participant receives a personalized experience based on their specific market traction and product needs.

By bridging the gap between innovation and capital, the program seeks to transform African EdTech into a cornerstone of regional development.

Funding and benefits

Successful edutech startups applicants will have access to financial support in the form of prototyping and user testing grants.

These funds are designed to help startups refine their technology and are awarded based on the successful validation of key project deliverables.

Beyond direct funding, the program offers high-level mentoring through weekly sessions with seasoned entrepreneurs and subject matter experts.

These mentors provide specialized guidance in cutting-edge fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), pedagogy, and impact assessment to help founders navigate technical and educational challenges.

Participants will also engage with expert educational content across modules dedicated to growth, financing, and marketing.

Furthermore, the program provides privileged networking opportunities, granting startups access to future Timbuktoo investment hubs and potential long-term partners.

Application requirements and eligibility

To be eligible for this cohort, startups must be based in Africa and possess a prototype or testable product that is ready for evaluation.

The program is specifically looking for innovators who are addressing critical educational challenges, including access, inclusion, quality, and employability.

Candidates must demonstrate a high level of commitment, as the program requires a dedicated 6 to 8 hours per week for its duration.

The selection committee will prioritize projects that show clear potential for improving teaching methods or expanding educational outreach across the continent.

Deadline

The application window is currently open for all eligible African EdTech companies. Interested founders must complete their submissions through the official portal before the strict deadline of 18 February 2026.
