The Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) is offering research grants to support innovative, interdisciplinary research in the life sciences.

The program aims to promote international collaboration and cutting-edge research that pushes the boundaries of our understanding of living organisms.

The focus of the grants is on fundamental biological problems, with an emphasis on novel and interdisciplinary approaches.

Funding

Grants are awarded for three years, with funding up to $500,000 per year for a team of four members.

The grants provide financial support for research teams to pursue innovative projects and collaborate internationally.

People who can apply:

  • Teams of 2-4 independent researchers from different countries
  • Early Career researchers with up to 5 years’ experience as head of their own research group
  • Researchers at any stage of their career, with a focus on interdisciplinary collaborations

Application requirements

Applicants must submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) via the HFSP application site, followed by a full proposal if invited. The LOI should include project details, team information, and a brief research plan.

Deadline

  • Letter of Intent submission deadline: 26 March 2026
  • Full proposal deadline (by invitation only): mid-September 2026
  • Funding start date: April 2027
