The Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) has launched a new call for applications to support implementation research aimed at eliminating visceral leishmaniasis (VL) in eastern Africa.
The initiative invites researchers and health professionals to generate evidence that strengthens ongoing national and regional VL elimination efforts.
Priority areas
The call targets multiple dimensions of VL control, including:
-
Scoping reviews of existing research
-
Mapping vector distribution and behaviour
-
Outbreak investigations
-
Assessments of population vulnerabilities
-
Evaluation of health service access
-
Analysis of the socioeconomic impacts of VL
The overarching goal is to produce evidence that informs and reinforces VL elimination strategies across eastern Africa.

Selected projects will receive up to USD 25,000 for research lasting up to 12 months.
Funding is designed to support practical and targeted implementation studies that contribute directly to improving VL control and elimination programmes.
