Farmers and rice millers are invited to apply for the 2025 Rice Miller Business Training (RMBT) Program and Business Development Support.
The comprehensive programme, organised by the GIZ-MOVE, Bühler Group, and Partners in Food Solutions, is designed for rice processors based in Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, and Kaduna States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Over the course of 10 months, participants will glean specialised knowledge on improving their mill operations—and will be supported to put the insights into practice.
Programme category
The training consists of two components:
The Rice Miller Business Training (RMBT) programme—a modular training program that aims to enhance the management skills of mill managers and equip mill staff with industry insights to improve their daily operations. It comprises the following five modules, each covered over three days:
- Milling Operations (conducted by Bühler Group)
- Practical Marketing for Rice Mills
- The Business of Rice Milling
- Finance Essentials for Rice Mills
- Developing Profitable Farmer Services
The Business Development Support (BDS)—this component focuses on personalised coaching and targeted support for participating mills.
Eligibility Requirements
The programme targets medium- and large-sized mills that
- Intend to scale up operations, upgrade equipment and improve efficiency and rice quality.
- Demonstrate flexibility and motivation and can invest time in the courses
- Have been in business for at least three years.
- Employ at least 10 staff members.
- Mills are required to invest time to participate in the courses, for coaching and for M&E.
- Can provide two participants per module: one senior manager (owner, CEO, or manager) and one staff member directly involved in the training topic
- Ensure at least 30% of the participants are women.
- Are willing to submit M&E-related data, participate in baseline and endline studies and share feedback or success stories.
- Have team members that can speak fluent English.
