The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF), in partnership with the Wangari Maathai Leadership Lab (WALL), has opened applications for the 2026 AWF–WALL Youth Leadership Program.

This initiative is designed to equip young Africans with the leadership skills, knowledge, and networks needed to drive meaningful change in conservation, climate action, and sustainable development across the continent.

The programme focuses on building a new generation of African leaders who are committed to protecting nature while advancing community wellbeing.

It aims to strengthen participants’ ability to influence policy, lead conservation initiatives, and design solutions that balance environmental protection with social and economic needs.

Programme benefits

Selected participants will benefit from a fully supported leadership experience  offered by the African Wildlife Foundation, including training sessions, mentorship, peer learning, and exposure to regional and global conservation networks.

The programme places strong emphasis on practical leadership development, systems thinking, and real-world impact.

Who can apply?

  • The opportunity is open to young Africans actively working or engaged in conservation, climate action, natural resource management, or community-based development.

  • Applicants should demonstrate leadership potential, a clear commitment to Africa’s environmental future, and readiness to participate fully in all programme activities.
