The hunt for the next pioneer in sustainable fashion has officially begun as the Circular Design Challenge opens its latest round of applications.
This global initiative seeks to identify and elevate designers who are moving beyond traditional aesthetics to embrace the principles of a circular economy.
Funding and benefits
Successful candidates will vie for a prestigious financial grant designed to help sustainable start-ups scale their operations and increase their market impact.
This funding serves as a vital catalyst for turning eco-friendly concepts into viable, large-scale business realities.
Beyond capital, the winner will receive a platform to showcase their collection on a global stage, providing unparalleled exposure to international buyers and media.
This opportunity often includes a dedicated slot at a major fashion week to highlight the intersection of sustainability and style.
Finalists also gain access to exclusive mentorship programs, connecting them with industry icons and experts.
These mentors provide crucial guidance on green supply chains, sustainable manufacturing, and international retail strategies to ensure long-term success.
Eligibility criteria
- Applications will be considered based on the country where the applicant’s business or label is officially registered.
- The organization or label must be in operation for 8 years or less.
- We accept individual applications as well as consortium applications. A consortium refers to a group of up to four professionals working together collaboratively to develop and present the final collection.
- Submissions must be original, unpublished, and not previously showcased. Any inspiration used in the theme/collection must be explicitly mentioned, and plagiarism is strictly prohibited.
Application requirement
The challenge is open to early-stage start-ups and fashion entrepreneurs who have demonstrated a functional and innovative business model.
Applicants must have been in operation for a minimum period to prove their brand’s potential for growth and stability.
Prospective participants must provide evidence of innovative circular practices within their production cycle, such as waste-to-resource models or biodegradable materials.
The jury prioritizes designs that significantly reduce the environmental footprint compared to traditional fashion manufacturing.
A comprehensive portfolio is required for submission, detailing the design vision alongside technical data on sourcing and material life cycles.
Applicants are also expected to present a functional prototype that clearly demonstrates “circularity in action” to the selection committee.
