Funding details

The Gen Foundation awards one-time, non-renewable grants determined at the discretion of its Trustees.

The grant amount varies depending on the quality, originality, and potential impact of each proposal. Payments are made in Sterling Pounds, either by cheque for UK-based recipients or by wire transfer for international grantees.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.

  • Be engaged in study or research within the natural sciences, preferably in food science or technology.

  • Submit all application materials in English and typed (not handwritten).

The Foundation maintains an inclusive and diversity-driven selection policy, welcoming applicants regardless of nationality, gender, religion or background.

Requirements

A complete application must include:

  1. A completed official application form with a recent passport-sized photo.

  2. An up-to-date CV in English.

  3. Two original signed reference letters in English or Japanese.

  4. Proof of acceptance or enrolment from a recognised institution (including conditional offers).

Evaluation process

Applications are first reviewed by the Foundation’s Trustees, who select candidates based on academic merit, research relevance and contribution to the Foundation’s mission.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview before final selections are made.
