DevelopSpace is now giving small grants to help people work on science and engineering projects. These projects must share their results and methods openly so others can learn and build on them.

They are looking for ideas that can help with the human exploration and development of Mars. Projects that also work for the Moon or other space places are welcome.

Project eligibility

  • The work can be new research, a review of past work, or the making of useful tools, guides, or databases.
  • Your project could be about Mars resources like water or minerals, designing safe Mars hardware, picking good landing sites, making power, storing energy, or planning ways to travel long distances on Mars.
  • You can also suggest ideas for how future missions can better explore and study Mars.
  • Education projects can apply too, but they should create something that will still be useful even after the grant ends.
  • Efforts led by students or volunteers are encouraged.

Funding

  • Grants will be between $500 and $2,500 depending on your project size and the long-term value of your work.
  • The money can be used for research, travel, team food, small stipends, or other needs that help your project succeed.
  • You may also get extra help like computer storage, technical advice, or support with raising more funds.
  • Even if your project is not funded this round, you might still get help to make your idea stronger for next time.

Who qualifies?
Applications are open to people anywhere in the world, but some US rules may limit who can get funds. Non-US winners may need more time to receive the money.

When and how to apply
The deadline to apply for this round is September 20, 2025. Click HERE to begin.

DevelopSpace is offering small grants for science and engineering projects that openly share their results and methods.

They are particularly interested in projects that aid the human exploration and development of Mars, but contributions that also apply to the Moon or other extraterrestrial locations are welcomed.

Eligible projects can include new research, reviews of past work, and the creation of productive tools, guides, or databases.

They could focus on Mars resources, designing safe equipment, choosing landing sites, energy management, or strategies for long-distance travel on Mars.

Educational projects are also encouraged as long as they have lasting impact beyond the grant period.

Funding ranges from $500 to $2,500, depending on the project's scale and its potential long-term value, and can be applied to various needs such as research, travel, team expenses, and small stipends.

Additional support like technical advice or help with additional fundraising may be provided. Globally, people are eligible to apply, though some U.S.

regulations might affect fund distribution, and non-U.S. recipients may experience delays in receiving their grants. Applications are open until September 20, 2025.
