The African Group of Negotiators Expert Support (AGNES) has opened applications for its 2025 Climate, Peace and Security Programme, an initiative designed to address the growing intersection of climate change and security across Africa.

The programme seeks to equip policymakers, practitioners, and civil society actors with the tools, knowledge, and skills to develop practical, cross-sector solutions that promote sustainable peace and resilience amid worsening climate impacts.

Its core objective is to build a network of informed and responsive professionals capable of advancing knowledge exchange, strengthening cooperation, and promoting preventive diplomacy. The programme also aims to foster the development of climate-informed early warning systems at local, national, and global levels to address climate-induced security threats.

Programme Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  • Evaluate concepts and frameworks at the intersection of climate, peace, and security from diverse perspectives

  • Gain knowledge on conducting integrated conflict and climate analysis

  • Identify entry points and apply conflict-sensitive approaches in policy-making and programme design that integrate peacebuilding, security, and gender equality objectives
