The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) is now accepting applications for its “Youth Digital Health Champions” program.
The program is looking for young, tech-savvy individuals across the continent who are passionate about revolutionizing healthcare through technology. This initiative aims to harness the creativity and energy of Africa’s youth to build a stronger, more resilient public health system for the future.
The Role of Youth Digital Health Champions in Transforming Healthcare
At its core, the program is designed to create a network of skilled young professionals who can lead the charge in digital health transformation. The initiative’s primary goal is to equip these champions with the necessary skills and knowledge to drive innovation within their home countries and across Africa.
Participants will focus on developing and implementing digital solutions that address pressing public health challenges, thereby strengthening the continent’s overall health security.
Funding and key benefits
- The Youth Digital Health Champions is a fully funded opportunity, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder talented individuals from participating. Successful applicants will receive a monthly stipend to cover their living expenses throughout the 12-month program.
- Beyond financial support, the fellowship offers invaluable benefits, including comprehensive health insurance and a round-trip economy class ticket for travel related to the program.
- Fellows will be placed within national public health institutes (NPHIs), ministries of health, or other relevant public health institutions in their home countries. This hands-on placement allows them to contribute directly to national health priorities while receiving guidance from seasoned experts in the field.
Who is Eligible to Apply?
Applicants must be citizens of an African Union member state and be between the ages of 21 and 35
- Candidates for the Youth Digital Health Champions are required to hold a bachelor’s degree in fields such as public health, computer science, information technology, or health informatics.
- Applicants must also possess at least two years of work experience in digital health or a related area.
- Prospective champions should be proficient in using digital tools and platforms, with a strong ability to manage data and digital projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also essential for collaborating effectively within public health settings.
- You must also have proficiency in at least one of the official languages of the African Union—Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, or Swahili.
