Harvard University’s Villa I Tatti is inviting applications for its residential fellowship in Florence, Italy. Designed for early- and mid-career scholars, the fellowship offers one year of uninterrupted research on any aspect of the Italian Renaissance–from art and literature to science and politics.

People who can apply
The fellowship is open to scholars from all countries who meet specific academic and career-stage requirements.
- Applicants must have a Ph.D. or an equivalent doctoral degree. For the upcoming cycle, the degree must have been awarded between July 1, 2014, and June 30, 2022.
- Candidates must be able to dedicate the entire twelve-month fellowship period, from July 1 to June 30, to their research project.
- A strong command of English is required, and knowledge of Italian is beneficial.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted through Harvard University’s online funding portal. Required materials include:
- A curriculum vitae (CV).
- A detailed project proposal.
- A copy of the Ph.D. certificate.
- Two letters of recommendation (submitted separately).
Deadline
The deadline for the main application is October 15, with recommendation letters due by October 22. Applicants will be notified of results by mid-December, giving successful candidates ample time to prepare for their year in Florence.
