The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), in partnership with the Government of Iceland, is inviting applications for the 2026 Vigdís Prize for Women’s Empowerment.
The annual award recognises initiatives that help women gain greater presence and influence in political, social and economic life.
It highlights work that drives real change—whether by supporting survivors, expanding women’s leadership or tackling long-standing structural barriers.
Funding details
The winning applicant will receive approximately $65,000 to support ongoing or future women’s empowerment initiatives.
In addition, the laureate receives a formal diploma and the global visibility that comes with recognition from a major European institution. Past winners have used this recognition to secure new partnerships and long-term support.
Who can apply
Applications are open to individuals and organisations working directly with women and girls. Eligible applicants include:

Individuals (excluding current PACE members).

Civil society organisations or associations.

Private companies with proven, impactful initiatives.

Ongoing programmes or projects with measurable results.

Requirements
All submissions must be completed in English or French using the official nomination form.
Each application requires at least five sponsors and must include detailed information about the nominee’s work, supporting documents and evidence of impact.
Review process
Applications will be assessed by an independent six-member Selection Panel appointed by PACE and the Government of Iceland.
The Panel, chaired by the President of the Parliamentary Assembly or their representative, will choose a laureate whose work demonstrates long-term potential and strong community benefit.
