The Morris Animal Foundation is now accepting applications for its veterinary student research stipend, designed to help veterinary students gain hands-on research experience that advances animal health.
Focus areas
The programme supports research projects focused on improving the health of dogs, cats, horses and wildlife. Projects centred primarily on human medicine or production animal health are ineligible, as the foundation’s mission is dedicated to companion animals and wild species.
What’s on offer?
Selected students receive a $5,500 stipend to support living expenses during the research period.
Projects typically last three to four months—long enough for meaningful research while allowing students to manage their academic schedules.
To ensure funds directly benefit students, the stipend cannot be used for equipment, laboratory supplies, testing, publication fees or institutional costs.
Who’s it for?
The opportunity is open to veterinary students who:
-
are enrolled in an accredited veterinary programme.
-
remain enrolled throughout the project (possibly through August 2026).
-
have a confirmed institutional nomination.
-
work under an approved research mentor.
DVM/PhD students and previous VSS stipend recipients are not eligible. Institutions may submit no more than two applications
Application requirements
Applicants must secure institutional approval before submitting their proposals, clearly defining a research question aligned with the Foundation’s priority species and demonstrating how the project will advance canine, feline, equine or wildlife health. Proposals should also outline the mentor’s role in guiding the project from design to completion.
Deadline
Sign up on the foundation’s portal to submit proposals. Applications end on January 14, 2026.
