The National Consultative Commission on Human Rights (CNCDH) in France has officially opened its call for applications for the prestigious 2025 Human Rights Prize.
The Human Rights Prize is an annual award established in 1988. It shines a spotlight on individuals and organizations making significant contributions to human rights on the ground, often in challenging circumstances.
It serves as a tribute to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and aims to support those who work tirelessly to protect and promote these fundamental freedoms worldwide.
The Human Rights Prize supports the completion of individual or collective field projects dedicated to defending human rights.
2025 focus
For the 2025 edition of the Human Rights Prize, applicants must focus their work on one of two specific themes: the right to water and sanitation and artificial intelligence and human rights. This thematic focus ensures the prize addresses pressing contemporary issues in the human rights landscape.
Funding and other benefits
- The five laureates selected for the prize will share a total grant of €70,000, which will be distributed among them by the CNCDH.
- Winning this award also offers significant international recognition. The official awards ceremony is a high-profile event held in Paris around December 10th, International Human Rights Day, lending visibility and prestige to the winners and their work. This can be instrumental in amplifying their message and impact on a global scale.
Who is eligible to apply for the Human Rights Prize
Eligibility for the Human Rights Prize is broad, welcoming applications from any individual or non-governmental organization (NGO) regardless of their nationality or where they are based. The key requirement is that their project directly addresses one of the two designated themes for the year. This inclusive approach ensures that impactful work from any corner of the globe can be recognized and supported.
Application requirements for the Human Rights Prize
- To be considered, applications must be submitted in French.
- The application package must include a detailed application form, which outlines the project’s objectives and operational details.
- Applicants must provide a copy of their organization’s statutes (or articles of association for NGOs) and a document known as a “RIB” for banking details. All required documents must be included for the application to be complete.
