Applications are now open for the 2025 Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize for Journalism, inviting journalists from around the world to submit their entries.

This prestigious annual award honours outstanding investigative journalism that upholds the core values of the European Union, including democracy, human rights, the rule of law, and press freedom.

Named in memory of Daphne Caruana Galizia, a Maltese investigative journalist and anti-corruption blogger who was assassinated in 2017, the prize celebrates journalism that challenges power and exposes injustice.

Who Can Apply?

  • Professional journalists or teams of journalists

  • Any nationality

  • Submissions must be in-depth journalistic work (articles, documentaries, investigations, etc.)

  • Entries must be published or broadcast in one of the 27 EU member states

  • Submissions should promote or defend EU values such as:

    • Human dignity

    • Freedom

    • Democracy

    • Equality

    • Rule of law

    • Human rights

Prize Details

  • Award amount: €20,000 (tax-free)

  • Award ceremony: Scheduled for mid-October 2025, marking the anniversary of Caruana Galizia’s death on October 16
