The Grants in Biodiversity Programme supports innovative projects that conserve and protect Africa’s biodiversity. It aims to promote the preservation of threatened species and ecosystems, offering researchers and conservationists a chance to make tangible, positive impacts on the continent’s natural environment.

Aim
The programme is designed to strengthen biodiversity conservation across Africa by funding projects that produce measurable, lasting outcomes. It prioritises initiatives that directly enhance conservation efforts and provides a platform for researchers and practitioners to conduct essential fieldwork and research.

Funding details
Grants range from $5,000 to $20,000 per year for up to three years. Projects funded under the programme must align with its conservation objectives and demonstrate clear potential for impact.

Additionally, recipients will gain access to a network of conservationists and researchers, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Eligibility
Applications are open to:
● Researchers with a postgraduate degree in a relevant field
● Conservationists with at least two years of experience in biodiversity conservation
● Individuals or teams with a proven record of conservation work
● Applicants based in Africa or partnered with an organisation based in Africa
● Candidates who demonstrate a strong understanding of the conservation challenge and a well-developed project plan

Requirements
Applicants must submit a detailed project proposal outlining objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes, along with a comprehensive budget and timeline.

Proposals should clearly define the conservation issue being addressed and outline practical strategies to achieve measurable results.

Selection criteria
All proposals will be reviewed by a panel of experts who will assess them based on scientific merit, conservation impact, and feasibility. Shortlisted applicants may be invited for an interview or asked to provide additional information before the final selection.

Deadline
All entries are due on Monday, December 1, 2025. Results will be announced by early April 2026, and funded projects will run from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2028.
