The African Peacebuilding and Developmental Dynamics Individual Research Fellowship is dedicated to strengthening the quality and visibility of independent African peacebuilding research. It seeks to make peacebuilding knowledge more accessible to policymakers, practitioners, and research institutions across Africa and globally.
The fellowship welcomes research on diverse themes related to peacebuilding, governance and development in conflict-affected contexts.
Aim of the fellowship
The fellowship aims to foster thought leadership, build capacity, and promote the production of evidence-based knowledge that shapes regional and global peacebuilding conversations.
It supports African scholars and practitioners in conducting research that tackles pressing peacebuilding challenges while advancing their academic and professional careers.
Funding details
Up to nine fellowships will be awarded, each worth a maximum of $12,000. Fellows will participate in two mandatory workshops, receive mentorship from senior scholars, and engage in peer-to-peer learning.
They will also contribute to international journals, books, blogs or podcasts, thereby increasing their visibility and impact within the peacebuilding community.
Eligibility
Applications are open to:
● African citizens residing in an African country
● Academics with a full-time faculty or research position at an accredited African institution and a PhD obtained no earlier than January 2016
● Practitioners with a master’s degree obtained before January 2021 and at least five years of verifiable full-time research or professional experience in peacebuilding-related fields

● Two reference letters on institutional letterhead
Selection criteria
Selection will be based on eligibility, thematic relevance, originality, research quality, contribution to scholarly discourse and feasibility within the programme timeframe.
Applicants will be evaluated on the strength of their proposal, academic background and relevant experience.
