The AASM Foundation has opened applications for its Bridge to Success Grant for Early-Career Investigators, a programme designed to support promising researchers in sleep and circadian science.

The initiative targets early-career scientists whose previous research proposals were reviewed but not funded—offering them a second chance to strengthen, revise, and resubmit competitive applications.

Focus

The programme provides one year of support for investigators to refine their study design, address reviewer feedback and strengthen their scientific approach.

Its goals include:

  • Helping applicants revise and improve previously reviewed proposals.

  • Enhancing mentorship and scientific rigour.

  • Enabling investigators to prepare a stronger resubmission.

Funding details

Awardees may receive up to $100,000 USD for a one-year period, with indirect costs capped at 8%.

Funding may cover:

  • Direct research expenses

  • Personnel salary

  • Mentorship activities

  • Essential resources needed to revise and strengthen the proposal

The flexible funding structure allows researchers to focus on improving their resubmission without financial interruption.

Who can apply

The grant is intended for early-career researchers who previously submitted a proposal that received a score but was not funded.

Applicants must have applied for a multi-year career development award from a recognised body such as the NIH or the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Eligible applicants include:

  • Holders of MD, DO, DDS, DMD, DNP, DNSc, PharmD, PhD or equivalent degrees.

  • Early-career investigators in sleep or circadian science.

  • Individuals with a peer-reviewed but unfunded proposal.

  • International researchers, provided their institutions can accept USD funding.

Requirements

Applicants should clearly demonstrate how the grant period will strengthen their previous proposal.

Competitive applications will include:

  • A refined research plan.

  • Clear scientific objectives.

  • Detailed mentorship arrangements.

  • A strategy for addressing reviewer comments.

The final outcome must be a substantially improved resubmission with a stronger chance of securing long-term funding.

Deadline

Applications are due on January 05, 2026. Eligible candidates can visit the AASM Foundation website to apply.
