18 people have been confirmed dead in two separate accidents in Cross River and Ebonyi States, early this week.
The clash in Cross River State, which involved a Sienna and a truck claimed six lives, while the one in Ebonyi claimed twelve lives.
Speaking to NAN in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, Abdullahi Hassan, The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Cross River, said another person was left injured in the clash.
The FRSC boss in the state said the accident happened along the Calabar-Ogoja Highway.
He said, “We have eight male adults and one female adult in the vehicles. One male adult was injured, while six persons, five males, and one male, died.
“The registration number of the Siena vehicle is AFM 810 NK, while the truck has no number. The probable cause of the crash is wrongful overtaking and speeding” he said.
In Ebonyi State, Uche Chukwurah, the Sector Commander in the state, told newsmen in Abakaliki, the state capital, that the clash involving a bus and an articulated vehicle, occurred at the Enugu-Abakaliki-Ogoja Highway.
Her words, “The registration number of the shuttle bus is EBJ 350 XA while the articulated vehicle has no registration number.
“14 persons were involved in the accident with 12 dead and two seriously injured.
“The dead persons consist of 10 males and two females, and the accident occurred around 10am,” she said.
Chukwurah advised motorists to be careful, as there is no substitute for life, adding that the injured passengers were evacuated to the Alex-Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki for treatment.
