Labour Party’s candidate in last Saturday’s presidential election, Peter Obi, has broken the silence assuring Nigerians, especially the youths, that the election results will be challenged in court.
Obi, who was addressing a world press conference for the first time after the poll, assured Nigerians who were disappointed with the result of the election, in which the candidate of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was declared winner, that the failure of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to follow its own guidelines to conduct a free and fair election would be challenged.
“We would walk through this darkness until daybreak,” he assured. “I am obedient. They have asked me to go to court, and I will obey them.”
The Labour Party’s candidate said his decision to seek redress in the law court is in the interest of the present and future generations.
“The people (who rigged the election) have made up their minds that we won’t succeed; we have also made up our mind that we will succeed. I know how disillusioned you are, but don’t be,” he consoled.
On the possibility of being part of a unity government, the LP presidential flag bearer reacted, “I have always been for peace. However, you can’t build peace on a faulty foundation. The foundation has to be right for peace to prevail”.
Obi also appealed to his party’s supporters to go out en masse and elect labour party candidates during the forthcoming governorship and state House of assembly elections holding on March 11, 2023
