Izge Aleeyu, a climate activist based in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, has launched a Climate Guide Book which will serve as a guide to living a sustainable lifestyle.
Izge Aleeyu co-founded Green Panthers in 2019, a youth-driven initiative leveraging digital tools to build young people’s resilience across the Lake Chad region.
The launching of the book was graced by climate change activists within North-Eastern Nigeria and other young persons enthusiastic about learning how to mitigate and reduce the risks and dangers caused by climate change.
“The book explains what climate change, renewable energy and sustainable living are. It offers alternatives and measures to curtail or at least slowdown climate change,” said Izge Aleeyu in his opening remark.
Usman Aliyu, a climate change activist, who was chairman of the launching committee, said the work to protect our environment and leave a sustainable society behind is not for only a few groups of people but for everyone.
“All hands must be on deck to help curb this menace befalling us,” he said.
Also speaking, Abubakar Abdullahi Suleiman, the Executive Director Centre For Social Cohesion Peace and Empowerment or CENSCOPE, recommended the book as a reading text to primary, secondary, and tertiary learning institutions. He added that it should also serve as a working guide for the government environmental ministries and agencies.
Muhammad Bukar Umara, a social entrepreneur in Maiduguri, stated that they would put all the required efforts into seeking collaborations with stakeholders from education ministries and other non-profit organizations to promote the book to a greater standard.
