A student at the University of Ibadan, southwestern Nigeria, has emerged as a hero after aiding his fellow hall mate in recovering stolen items. The incident unfolded in the early hours of the morning, sending shockwaves through the university community.

At approximately 5:40 a.m., a University of Ibadan student was abruptly awakened by a fellow hall mate, urgently inquiring about the whereabouts of his phone. It was soon discovered that not only the phone but also a camera were missing from the victim’s room.

The helpful student, residing just a few rooms away, provided crucial information, stating that he had witnessed two suspicious individuals fleeing from the victim’s balcony. Describing them as two men dressed in black, with one wearing a jalabia and the other carrying a brown bag, his account proved instrumental in tracking the stolen gadgets.

Determined to apprehend the thief, the victim and his friend, aided by local traders and bikers, embarked on a chase that led them to Agbowo Market. Despite the thief’s attempts to evade capture, the collective efforts of the pursuers paid off when a bystander handed the victim a discarded bag. Inside were the stolen phone and camera, concealed beneath wet clothes.

The relief was palpable as the victim retrieved his belongings, although the camera lens hood had been damaged. Both suspects were subsequently apprehended and handed over to university security for further action.

However, the resolution of the incident was not immediate. The recovered items had to be retained as evidence, prolonging the ordeal for the victim. Numerous visits and extensive paperwork at Sango Police Station were required before the victim could finally reclaim his belongings.

Expressing gratitude for the support he received, the victim stated, “I really appreciate everyone that showed concern throughout the period of the incident and after. God bless you all. I just left Sango Police station and I have successfully recovered my gadgets. A part of my camera is broken though.”

This incident serves as a testament to the power of solidarity within the university community and highlights the importance of vigilance in ensuring the safety and security of all students.
