Two police constables, Jimoh Lukman and Kareem Fatai, caught on camera demanding a bribe from a foreigner have been dismissed from the police force. The Oyo State commissioner confirmed this while stripping the officers of their uniform at the Force headquarters in Ibadan.

The officers had been seen in a viral video demanding money from a Dutch tourist who was heading to Abuja from the Netherlands on her power bike.

In the wake of the incident, the Oyo State Command promptly ordered their arrest. On Thursday, the state commissioner of police, Adebola Hamzat, demanded the officers’ immediate dismissal after the recommendation of an internal investigation.

While extolling the police chairman’s zero tolerance for corruption, the commissioner warned that such “embarrassing conduct” would not be condoned from any officer.

“The two dismissed constabularies {sic} would not be prosecuted in court since they were not originally trained officers of the Nigerian police.”
