On August 8, 2023, a touching video was shared on TikTok by an account Dexy Creation. The video showed a struggling family with a diabetic daughter and a father with impaired eyesight.
The daughter, Jennifer, had given a seemingly stranded stranger 500 naira for transport fare, unaware of his true intentions. He later revealed, “I was just trying to see the first person that would be kind to help me today.”
Dexy was on a mission to reward someone’s kindness to a person in need. In response, he returned the 500 naira to Jennifer and also provided her with a monetary gift, marking the beginning of a positive turn for the family.
Upon viewing the video, netizens began expressing their desire to contribute to Jennifer’s health and well-being, and in just five days, Jennifer had gotten 500,000 naira and sponsors who would cover her medical expenses for an extended period.
Jennifer and her family are not the sole beneficiaries of Dexy’s benevolence; numerous Nigerians have experienced his acts of goodwill and kindness.
The face behind the goodwill, Victor Chidiebere Olise, said he had chosen to focus his content on charity because of his upbringing.
“As a young child, I watched my father be kind to others even though we were going through a lot. Growing up wasn’t easy…” he said
The 24-year-old, who started posting this type of content in July 2023, currently has 180,000 followers and has garnered more than 1,700 million likes on TikTok.
Dexy is known to visit people in the rural areas of Abuja, Nigeria, to offer them kindness.
Many times, he camouflages as a hungry or needy person to ask them for help. Those who are kind to share often get rewarded.
The shock and tears from his benefactors often melt the hearts of viewers. His videos preach love for humanity.
“I love helping people. There’s this inner peace and joy I get when I see someone happy over what I did for them,” Olise said with a smile
Olise also revealed his motives to be genuine. In his words, “I put these videos on the internet to inspire others to help others and to make the less privileged get more help,”
Challenges
Olise explained that he is not always financially buoyant, contrary to netizen’s belief. Olise is a student in one of the Nigerian universities and a part-time photographer and forex trader.
“Sometimes, I give out the little that I have, knowing that I don’t have much. Deep down, I know that I don’t have the capacity to help everyone, but that’s the more reason why I do this, because this way, I am able to solicit for more help on their behalf.”
He added, “My earnest desire is that God will make me so rich that I wouldn’t need support from people to be kind. If it’s just for this cause, I pray to be wealthy”
Olise also claimed to have people run from him when he approached them. The current insecurity rate in Nigeria makes people weary of strangers.
“Sometimes, when I approach people, they tend to run thinking that I want to hurt them or something,”
Currently, Olise has a gofundme account for charity and hopes to have a charity foundation in the future.
He is a lover of children.
