An Irish Alan Fisher, an owner and chef of a restaurant in Japan, has broken Nigeria’s Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, cooking Guinness World Record after clocking in a time of 119 hours 57 minutes.

On May 15, 2023, Hilda Bassey set the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.

The 26-year-old Nigerian chef began on Thursday 11 May and continued through to Monday 15 May, cooking over 100 pots of food during her four-day kitchen stint.

She attempted to set a record of 100 hours, however, almost seven hours were deducted from her final total because she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early on in the attempt.

And on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, Guinness World Record announced Alan has dethroned Hilda with the longest cooking time of 119 hours 57 minutes; more than 24 hours longer.

Fisher, who broke two records at the same time, also set the longest baking marathon (individual), with a time of 47 hours 21 minutes. The previous record holder was Wendy Sandner (USA) with a time of 31 hours 16 minutes.

Alan learned about the longest cooking marathon record in March while he was participating in the “I Love Ireland” festival in Tokyo. During this festival, Alan stood inside a rented kitchen car and stayed overnight twice.

During a break, he searched on the internet to find out that the record at the time was held by Lata Tondon (India) with a time of 87 hours 45 minutes. Then in May, Alan realised that Hilda Baci had extended the record to 93 hours and 11 minutes.

Alan Fisher, an Irish chef and owner of a restaurant in Japan, has broken the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon with a time of 119 hours and 57 minutes, surpassing the previous record-holder, Nigeria’s Hilda Baci, who had set a record of 93 hours and 11 minutes in May 2023. Fisher also set the record for the longest baking marathon at 47 hours and 21 minutes, breaking Wendy Sandner's previous record of 31 hours and 16 minutes.

Baci's record attempt, which spanned from May 11 to May 15, 2023, involved cooking over 100 pots of food, but her final tally was reduced due to an error in her rest breaks. Fisher discovered the existing cooking marathon record during the "I Love Ireland" festival in Tokyo in March and was motivated to set a new record after learning of Baci's achievement in May.
