Women Photograph has officially opened its call for the 2026 project grants, aimed at supporting the work of women and nonbinary photographers.

This year’s initiative, bolstered by a partnership with Leica USA, seeks to empower visual journalists who are dedicated to documentary storytelling.

The organization remains committed to its mission of inclusivity, welcoming applicants from a diverse range of identities, geographies, and lived experiences.

This funding opportunity is designed to elevate voices that have traditionally been underrepresented in the field of professional photography.

Funding and benefits

The program features three separate $10,000 grants intended to support both new and ongoing documentary projects.

These funds are flexible, covering essential hard costs such as reporting expenses, photographer creative fees, and other production-related requirements for new work.

While the grants focus on the creation of the work itself, they are not intended to fund secondary materials like books, exhibitions, or workshops.

Importantly, all grantees retain full ownership of their work, though sponsors may use select images for promotional purposes tied to the grant program.

Application requirements and eligibility

The application process is open to women, nonbinary, transgender, and intersex documentary photographers of any nationality.

Membership in the Women Photograph organization is not a prerequisite for applying, ensuring a broad and accessible reach.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to submit a cohesive story rather than individual images, and though the core must be still photography, multimedia links are permitted.

There is no fee to apply, and while submissions must be in English, the use of translation services is encouraged for non-native speakers.

Deadline

The application window officially opens on May 20, 2026, with a limit of one submission per open call.

Applicants are advised to disclose any use of generative AI in their projects and are free to use any brand of camera equipment.

All materials must be submitted no later than June 30, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET.

Organizers emphasize that because of the strict timeline, no exceptions will be made for late work, making it vital for applicants to double-check their local time zones.
